Welcome!

Hamilton and District Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society was founded for the purpose of stimulating interest in and promoting the culture and development of the chrysanthemum and dahlia. Our Society holds several meetings throughout the year and an Annual Show, in September to feature the efforts and rewards of area gardeners.

We held our annual Tuber Sale and Auction this past April 14, 2008 at the Dundas Community Centre. This is one of two fund-raising events for the Society. The other way we raise funds is through a tuber sale that was held in conjunction with the Royal Botanical Gardens Auxiliary Sale at the R.B.G. Arboretum in May. Visitors may purchase dahlia tubers at this sale. Many of them are from prize-winning stock and a few are one-of-a-kind. Gardeners will also be able to speak to dahlia members on how to plant, pinch, debud, grow and care for dahlias during the year.

Our Society is a member of the American Dahlia Society and as such has hosted several district and national show competitions, with growers coming from all parts of Eastern Canada and the Northern United States. It is not uncommon to see upwards of 2,000 blooms on the show benches. These shows are open for viewing to the general public with growers available to answer questions in regards to the blooms on display. At the end of the show, the blooms are auctioned off to raise funds for our Society.

Whether you are a novice or an experienced grower, our Show offers a class for each and every chrysanthemum and dahlia that is grown today.
