The April meeting, is our annual Tuber Sale and Auction. Visitors, members and friends can purchase dahlia tubers, at less than retail cost, during the auction, where there are prize-winning stock and some one-of-a-kind varieties.
The meeting dates for 2012 are: March 19, April 16 -- Tuber Sale, May 14, and October 15. The meetings are all being held on Monday evenings, Rooms 3 and 4, and start at 7 p.m. If you are unsure, ask at the security desk inside the R.B.G.
Anyone is welcome to attend our meetings and there is no admission to hear various speakers and learn about the culture of chrysanthemums and dahlias. We do not hold meetings during the months of September, November, December, January or February. We have a "hands-on demo for dahlia culture in July and a picnic in August with another demonstration session. (These events and locations are explained in our newsletter for members.) The Society members like to plan an awards dinner in November.
We will participate in the R.B.G. Auxiliary Sale at the R.B.G. Arboretum the first week in May. Shoppers can purchase dahlia tubers and cuttings of various varieties at the sale. Of course there is a limited number of stock available, so people should come early for the best selection.
Our annual show of Chrysanthemum and Dahlia blooms is held at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton. Our show dates are: September 8th and 9th, 2012.
Visitors are more than welcome to come see the show, which opens to the public at 1 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. Location map.
We have an auction of show blooms at 3 p.m. on the Sunday, so visitors are able to take some beautiful bouquets home to that special person.
